Week 36 of 2026
Greetings all!
The chase for the Lombardi is on! It’s the first week where I get to do my update sitting in front of an NFL game. I rather like this part of my job.
But before I talk about this week, here’s another, much cuter, chase. The granddaughter is chasing Wynnifred through the shop under the pews that hold our fabric. Props to Wynn, though. She just gives me a long-suffering look when JJ carries her clasped to her chest, paws akimbo.
“This tiny beast is annoying, but I guess she smells right. But still. Why this?” And then there’s the huge kitty sigh.
Before I get started on this week, permit me a bit of snark. The game I’m watching tonight, 49ers v. the Rams, is only on Netflix. It is not available on NFL Sunday Ticket.
That’s pretty annoying, given that the whole purpose of NFL Sunday Ticket, which is not cheap, is to permit us to watch every game. Nice bait and switch there, NFL.
Oh, and let’s just dig it in, why don’t we? Let’s have YouTube TV and NFL Sunday Ticket sponsor this game. I can’t see the game on their channel, but I get to see all their ads! How cool is that!
I already canceled my subscription.
Anyway, I got a bunch of reading done with the Giant Killer Kaiju submissions. I hope to have the initial sorting done tomorrow. Thanks to all fifty or so of you all who submitted. You’re making this process difficult, which is exactly as it should be.
I’m also making steady but slow progress on Book 2. With all that’s happened, I already informed Jonna at Raconteur that I’m not writing as fast as normal. I still hope to have Book 2 finished soon and Book 3 by the end of the year, which would put me on the schedule I aimed for, but we’ll see. As I mentioned last time, my life is full of upheaval, but soon we’ll have a better handle on things.
I’m also making progress on re-writing the epic fantasy series I have mostly written in the Firehall Sagas. I aim to have all 5 of those come out next year, but we’ll see. I’ll start releasing them in a rapid release once they’re all complete.
I may very well release these independently, so that begs the question, do I want to do a Kickstarter or something like that? I’d love to hear what you all think. Would you be willing to donate $20 for a basic package that includes all 5 e-books? Plus, of course, higher tiers that include physical copies and special goodies.
Also, I made an executive decision this week. I was planning on taking most of October off from making podcasts. The plan is we’ll be in Italy so I wasn’t going to take my work with me.
However, with all that’s happened, I haven’t done all the prep work I need to do in terms of scheduling and planning. That means I’m not likely to produce the quality of show that I feel you deserve. So, rather than do two mediocre shows on September 15th and 22nd, I’m just starting the hiatus now.
I’ll be back on October 28th with a Halloween-themed show with a horror writer, then Orson Scott Card scheduled for November 3rd. More to come on that front as I set up the schedule as far ahead as I can.
Now I’ll get back to football. The chase is definitely on!
