Greetings all
As part of our perambulations around Turin, we went inside the Chiesa di San Lorenzo, also called the Real Chiesa, or Royal Church. Oddly, it has a very unassuming entrance, but inside it’s glorious, as you’ll see.

Isn’t this glorious?

Sadly, the day we went was overcast, so we couldn’t see it in all its glory. The alcoves were designed to show off when it’s sunny. Ah, well.
The heraldry in the fuzzy picture by the way, Gules, a cross Argent, is that of the House of Savoy.

It is also the home of the Shroud of Turin. Now, this isn’t the actual shroud, but it is an exact replica they made to display so the shroud doesn’t get damaged any more than it is. Still, it was really cool to see the life-sized version and I was especially excited to see it because of Leonard Nimoy.
You see, I was first fascinated by the Shroud of Turin because Nimoy talked about it in this episode of In Search Of, which you can watch here:
By the way, the scenes shown early on in the show are of the nearby Cattedrale di San Giovanni Battista, which we didn’t actually visit but would’ve liked to. It looks gorgeous too.
Anyway, what a cool moment for me. So glad we got to go.
