Greetings all!
We had a few hours in Verona as we traveled from Como to Venice. Verona is, of course, the home of Romeo and Juliet, so it has all those tourist trap type places for that.
I didn’t take a lot of pictures here, but what I did is really cool, including an opportunity to give Jonna Hayden yet one more reason she needs to kick my shins. Check the third set to see just why.
So let’s go through the Roman gate and get to the pics!

Check out this map of Verona.
The important part is the how the River Adige bends around to create a peninsula where old town Verona lies. You can see that from a number of the pictures from the bus.
Once we crossed into the old part, however, we were greeted almost immediately with the Porta Borsari, which you can see in the first pic.
Also, look at the castle on the bottom left. That’s Castelvecchio and note the M-shaped crenelations. Those signified allegiance to the Ghibellines.
That Guelph - Ghibelline thing is incredibly embedded into Italy. It’s everywhere.

A good picture of the River Adige and then a bunch of the Porta Borsari.

One more pic of the Porta Borsari and then several of the Arena di Verona. This is one of the most preserved Roman amphitheaters around, so much so, it’s still in use! Get your tickets to the Opera or Philharmonic Orchestra shows at the arena here: https://www.arena.it/en/.
Side note: I might have acquired a new bucket list item.
Then there were more M-shaped crenelations and the beautiful tower.
Verona is amazing, actually.
Oh, by the way, the picture from the bottom left is my wife and I having lunch across the street from the arena. I might have sent this picture to Jonna to brag. Maybe. Possibly.

More of this and that, including the tower, Castelvecchio, and the river. The middle picture, by the way, was a neat store selling all sorts of writing stuff, including calligraphic pen sets.

Then a few more pics from the bus as we’re driving away.
Verona was really cool, but tomorrow we get to Venice!
